Chautauqua is a peaceful neighborhood nestled at the foot of Boulder’s iconic Flatirons sandstone formations. This incredible scenic neighborhood shares its name with the Colorado Chautauqua, an adult education camp which has been in continuous operation here since 1898. Stately Victorian homes dating back to this period can be found along the verdant streets surrounding the historic Colorado Chautauqua at Chautauqua Park. The dozen or so streets comprising the Chautauqua neighborhood also feature luxurious contemporary single-family homes; properties in Chautauqua offer large lots, elegant architecture, and some of Boulder’s most spectacular mountain and Flatirons views.

For outdoor recreation, Chautauqua is hard to beat. The neighborhood has sprawling Chautauqua Park as its backyard and miles of trails running through beautiful natural scenery. The site was chosen for the establishment of the Colorado Chautauqua due to its calming natural setting and stunning scenery. This is arguably Boulder’s most idyllic neighborhood, offering incredible peace and privacy plus access to miles of trails and vast open space.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

The Chautauqua Dining Hall has been a key component of the Colorado Chautauqua since it was established in 1898. The Dining Hall opens from breakfast through dinner with delicious fresh farm-to-table bistro fare. The Dining Hall is run by Three Leaf Concepts, which is the award-winning team behind some of Boulder’s most popular restaurants. The Dining Hall is particularly well-known for its impressive brunches and special event catering. Meals can be enjoyed on a wraparound porch with mesmerizing mountain views. The Dining Hall offers a full bar with outstanding wines and local craft beers on draft, and the drinks menu also includes a wide choice of premium loose leaf teas plus craft Colorado kombucha.

Chautauqua General Store is located close to the Dining Hall. The General Store carries all the essentials for a day spent exploring the park and trails. You can also pick up hot and cold drinks, snacks, pastries, and homemade ice creams and sundaes. The nearby Base-Mar shopping center has several international restaurants, shops, and CorePower Yoga.

Things to Do

Chautauqua Park is one of Boulder’s most beautiful and popular public parks. The park’s amenities include tennis courts and a children’s playground. Hiking trails run from Chautauqua Park to the iconic Flatirons, and other scenic spots including meadows, forests, canyons, and mountains. The Ranger Cottage at Chautauqua Park is an informative nature center that provides helpful advice regarding local trails and wildlife spotting. ​​​​​​​Chautauqua Auditorium has hosted concerts, lectures, and other events regularly since it was constructed in 1898.

Chautauqua Auditorium is often lovingly referred to as “the barn” due to its unique wooden interior. The structure reverberates with the music and provides a one-of-a-kind acoustic experience. Those to have graced the Chautauqua Auditorium stage include noted speakers such as Al Gore and Reverend Jesse Jackson along with musical acts such as Joan Baez, BB King, and Ziggy Marley.
